What are Crowns?
A dental crown is a versatile solution that restores the shape, size, and strength of a tooth. It fully encases the visible portion of your tooth or dental implant, providing long-lasting protection. Once our skilled Dentist or Specialist permanently bonds the crown in place, only they can remove it.
With proper care and good oral hygiene, our crowns can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years. We use high-quality materials and advanced techniques to ensure the longevity and durability of your crown.
When you choose our dental clinic, you can enjoy the benefits of our advanced CEREC® CAD/CAM treatment. This innovative technology allows us to design and create your porcelain crown right here in our office, eliminating the need for a temporary crown or a second visit. In just one appointment, you’ll leave with a beautiful and functional permanent crown.
Our experienced dentists may prescribe a crown for various reasons, including to:
- Restore and protect a worn, decayed, cracked, or broken tooth
- Safeguard and support a tooth after a large filling or root canal treatment
- Cover a dental implant for a natural-looking smile
- Secure a dental bridge or other prosthetic device in place
- Enhance your smile by concealing a misshapen or severely discoloured tooth
Types of Crowns
We offer three types of crowns, each with its own unique qualities:
- Full Porcelain: These crowns are aesthetically pleasing and provide a natural colour match to your existing teeth. They are an excellent choice for front teeth, and our skilled Dentists are highly proficient in using CEREC® CAD/CAM technology to deliver exceptional results.
- Full-Metal: Made from strong and enduring metals, these crowns are ideal for back teeth that endure the most biting and chewing forces. They rarely chip or break and require minimal removal of tooth structure.
- Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal: These crowns combine the natural surface colour of porcelain with the strength of a metal substructure. While they offer great aesthetics and durability, more tooth structure removal is necessary, potentially causing temporary discomfort during the treatment procedure.
We prioritize your comfort throughout the entire process. After a thorough examination, our Dentist will discuss treatment options and address any questions or concerns you may have. If a dental crown is the recommended treatment, we will apply a local anesthetic to ensure a pain-free experience.
For porcelain crowns, we offer two treatment methods:
- CEREC® CAD/CAM: With this cutting-edge technology, your porcelain crown will be designed and created in our office during a single visit. Say goodbye to temporary crowns and multiple appointments!
- Lava™: When optimal translucency is important, we utilize CEREC® CAD/CAM technology to design your crown during your first visit. A temporary crown will protect your tooth or dental implant until your second visit, where your permanent crown will be fitted and permanently bonded.
Metal or porcelain-metal crowns follow a similar process, but require two appointments:
- We create an impression of your prepared teeth using a putty-like material, ensuring a precise fit for your crown.
- You’ll be provided with a temporary crown to safeguard your tooth/implant and gums until your permanent crown is ready.
- During your second visit, our dentist will fit your permanent crown and bond it securely to your tooth or dental implant.
